Understanding Guddog Part 5 - Building a Brand

This is probably the funnest part of creating a business. Your brand is what lives and breathes. It is how you connect to your customers. It is how you find your business voice, both internal and external. The exploration around this sifts out the questions and fills you with clarity.

When we started the food truck business, our designers made us play a game where we had to choose words that resonated with us. They had piles of little cards that we could choose from. At the end we were only left with three words and those became our identity. I used a similar method with Guddog and wrote down all the words that felt right.

Understanding Guddog Part 4 - Choosing Plant-Based

As I've explored in earlier posts, I wasn’t sure what form my product was going to take. What I kept coming back to was a set of ingredients that I really wanted to include in the product. They all had a mixture of dry food and home cooked - a variety of chicken, beef, offal, raw meat and veggies.

Understanding Guddog Part 1 - A shifting Industry

The last decade has seen a huge shift in the dog food industry. Findings around ingredients and the quality of food has led to tightening of regulations and we now have incredible dog food brands that really do promote rude health for dogs. Brands like Lily's Kitchen and the BARF movement have paved the way for a whole new way of feeding our dogs. But this is still not mainstream food or mainstream teachings on dog health and nutrition.
